Welcome to Arts|Learning

Arts|Learning is the hub of arts education in Massachusetts. We support the inclusion of a complete arts education (dance, media arts, music, drama/theatre, and visual arts) for every K-12 student in the Commonwealth. When the arts are at the center of the core curriculum, students develop the 21st-Century skills they need to lead fulfilled lives.

As a non-profit organization, A|L is the Massachusetts arts education alliance partnering with dozens of professional arts education organizations, cultural institutions, and public agencies to bring about changes in the way the arts are viewed and supported within public education. We bring years of experience and acknowledged expertise to bear on arts education, programming, services, professional development for educators, and advocacy.

What’s New at A|L

A|L has joined the Arts Access for All Coalition, which is striving to replicate California’s Prop 28 in guaranteeing equitable state funding for arts education in that state through our Lowell Mason Act. Look for more information about this project in our Advocacy section

Arts|Learning has completed four years of contractual funding from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop comprehensive Arts Foundational Skills Progressions in each discipline of arts education. In addition to the two progressions each in Music and Visual Arts completed in 2022, we have completed Dance and Theatre in 2023, which are now posted on the DESE Arts website! We have completed developing the Media Arts Foundational Skills Progressions in 2025 and are awaiting this being posted on the DESE website. This is groundbreaking, unique work and Massachusetts is probably the only state developing such documents to supplement the 2019 Arts Curriculum Framework.
